We recently had the opportunity to find a beautiful boutique hotel, Pousada Tauma at Porba Vaddo, Calangute, Bardez, Goa and have diner with its owner Neville Proenca and after earlier in the day meeting his wife Angelica.

My wife and I both are looking forward to our return trip to Goa to again enjoy fellowship with Neville and Angelica. We have listed below just a few of the major magazine that agree with us, that the Pousada Tauma in Goa is the place to go to truly relax. By: Jerry and Lovella Biby

Nobody in Goa knows about Pousada Tauma. Ask around and taxi drivers stare at you blankly. . . There are 12 suites well-positioned around a pretty pool with swim-up bar and water cascade. More like a private villa than a resort. . . The rooms are simply decorated with cotton bedspreads, copper-pot lamps, colonial-style furniture and playful, Gaudí-esque bathrooms covered in shattered, brightly coloured tiles. Each clean and comfortable room has a private terrace, satellite TV and direct-dial telephone. There's a small Ayurvedic spa . . . and the Copper Bowl restaurant serves superlative Goan specialities. If you're craving luxury, the Pousada Tauma hotel, a walk away from Calangute beach, is quite a find. Go to their Web site to catch a glimpse of their gorgeous pool and — as they put it — "multi-angled splendor." They also offer all sorts of holistic, Ayurvedic health-care services including massage and special baths. The hotel is a bit removed from the dance world, so it's the perfect place to retreat when you're tired of making the scene

The Pousada Tauma Hotel in Calangute, Goa, is a charming world of its own, a sort of distant paradise. The 12 suites, scattered around the pool are endowed with different motifs - the Sea, the Fields, the Mountains and Castle giving guests a flavour of Goa. The greatest attractions is the Ayurveda Centre designed to tone up your body, mind and soul. It is the only Boutique Hotel built on the lines of a natural, traditional architectural concept using exposed masonry. Goa laterite stones have been used liberally, hence the glow it emits is distinctly Goan. A variety of flora and fauna enhance this other-world charm that makes your stay a tryst with nature and a solace for the soul. By: Jetwings

Rumours of the death of Goa have been greatly exaggerated. It all depends on where you stay. Lady Hamlyn recently booked the entire Pousada Tauma for a house party. It is a 12-suite eco-friendly boutique hotel and ayurveda centre, built from luminous Goan laterite stones around a meandering pool, with massage tables made from the trunks of medicinal trees. De-stressing, rest and simple, natural food are the keystones of Pousada Tauma. Here is a gentler India in which to wind down after the cultural overload of Rajasthan. By: Tatler

Situated amidst dense greenery and away from the congested market of Calangute is Pousada Tauma owned by Neville Proenca and his wife Angelica. Part of an extraordinary hotel, the interiors are balm to tired eyes. The sparkling pool with its waterfall effects, the garden and the furniture add class to the restaurant. It serves the most authentic Goan food. The chef lets you walk into the kitchen and decide on the levels of spice. The prawn balchao is the best I've had and so is the fish curry. In continental, try the brochettas and the grilled fish with steamed vegetables. Pousada is starting a Konkan menu this season. This place is worth visiting if only to experience one of the most beautiful hotels I've seen. By: India Today Plus

Pousada Tauma" is a 12 room hotel in Goa owned by Neville and Angelica Proenca. It is located in Calangute but away from the beach. There are three main themes that run through the project - three rooms of a sea theme, three of a field theme, 4 of the hills, 1 castle and a garden theme. The Sea rooms use shell, coral and other sea-life themes in its design. The Field rooms use bamboo, light wood and other grasses in its design. The Hill rooms use stone and heavy woods in its design. The whole project is tied together by the use of extensive stonework, which attempts to capture the vernacular in a contemporary way. Every room has a private garden and all of them focus round the central pool, all set in lush green surroundings. The project has been designed from an overall site and landscaping level, to details of even furniture and lamps. By: The Fountainhead

Small is beautiful"...I'm talking about quality tourism. . . Neville Proenca describes his hotel, Pousada Tauma, (pousada means home and Tauma is his father's name) as a boutique hotel. Its special attraction is the Ayurveda Center, professionally run by a doctor from the Institute of Ayurveda, Coimbatore, with two masseurs. There are two tables made of neem wood, and attached spine as well as steam baths. "Ayurveda is getting quite popular, with non-residents also coming to avail to the treatment," says Proenca. Treatments range from courses for seven days to three weeks.

Pousada Tauma, a tongue-twister name, is rather befitting for this quaint, yet stupendous resort in Calangute, Goa. Enter this cocoon, and life will suddenly loose its frenzied animation to slip into a tranquil lull. The sight of the amoeba-shaped pool wedged in the midst of thick foliage and rustic red-brick rooms sweeps over jaded nerves like a soothing balm. Away from the buzzing crowds that are typical of most Goan beach resorts, Pousada Tauma offers uncompromised peace and solitude. The resort has only 12 suites which makes it very exclusive - almost private. Make this trip an adult experience - sans kids, sans commitments, sans worries. Just hang loose for a bit! By: Elle

Pousada Tauma, which in Portuguese means 'the resting place', is a 13-room, theme resort with a built up area of 1,400 sq m. The site was originally a flat, odd-shaped coconut grove of approximately 4,300 sq m, surrounded by a dense village on all sides. It has a proper road access at one end and a service access at the other. The site needed to be articulated and areas defined by the creation of levels, planting buffers, intermediate pavilions and paving changes. It is 1.5 km from the infamous Calangute beach and being in this village, needed to buffer itself from the over-development of this area and look inwards.

A stone archway with a palm leaf gate takes one through a colonnaded structure housing an entrance pavilion, shop, gymnasium and an ayurvedic centre, into the open central space which feeds the various other resort rooms and facility pavilions like the restaurant, garden pavilion, etc. The pool , with its bar, entry pavilion, an elevated deck and waterfall are also located here. This large space gives one the impression that the site is larger than it actually is.

Most of the rooms are designed around three themes - the sea, the fields and the hills. The whole complex is insulated from the outside, and captures the spirit of Goa which is famous for these elements of natural beauty.
